But what happens to the left over paint?

Approximately 50 million litres of paint are sold every year in New Zealand. Around 97% of this paint is used to beautify our homes, places of work, recreational areas, government and council buildings.
So what happens to the remaining 3% of paint?
3% is in fact 1.5 million litres of paint! Most of this goes to landfill and seeps out, polluting the very water we drink or ends up in our seas. There is one company doing something about it:

With the the assistance of 13 City Councils, ENVIROPAINTS collected 240,000 litres of paint in 2006. This has helped to reduce the impact on the environment but it is only the beginning, there is still 1.26 million litres of paint to go!

ZERO WASTE:
Enviropaints has closed the loop on the waste associated with painting with its ground breaking National Product Stewardship Scheme. As a result of collecting waste paint, ENVIROPAINTS has reduced the volume of many different waste materials that would normally go to landfills. Metal tins are collected and recycled as scrap metal, plastic pails are washed, dried, and then granulated to be reborn as a diverse ranges of new products.

Quality Product
Rigorous laboratory testing ensures that the new product meets very high quality standards. This testing and its past track record means ENVIROPAINT have no problem standing behind the 10 YEAR GUARANTEE this product comes to market with. Not only is the product high quality, it is also extremely easy to apply by either brushing, rolling or spraying. It can be confidently used on almost any broad wall area, either inside or out.

Government Initiative
New Zealand is quickly moving to become a world leading sustainable economy and producer. With the current international concern around global warming and our own signing of the Kyoto Protocol we must move to become more sustainable. Many visitors to our country regularly enquire what we are doing to reduce our impact on the environment. The Government has taken the lead and is calling there initiative “govt³Towards Sustainable Practice. Environmental, Social, Economic.” ENVIROPAINT sits very comfortably within this frame work detailed by the government in their Sustainable Procurement Standards & Guidelines.

AWARDS:
In 2001 ENVIROPAINTS was awarded both the Green Tick and the Environmental Choice awards. ENVIROPAINTS is continually monitored by Environmental Choice to ensure it maintains the strict criteria laid down by this licence, (Number: EC-07-01.) ENVIROPAINTS maintains strict laboratory quality control to care for public health and the environment but this independent assessment guarantees that quality standards are maintained at all times.
