Home Energy Rating Scheme:
The Home Energy Rating Scheme (HERS) has been developed by the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority (EECA), in conjunction with the Department of Building and Housing (DBH) and the Ministry for the Environment.
The Home Energy Rating program is one of a broad package of Government initiatives working towards warm, healthy homes with reduced energy costs and lower environmental impact.

The Home Energy Rating is an energy efficiency star-rating, just like the energy ratings on appliances like fridges and dishwashers. The Home Energy Rating gives a star-rating for:
• The building
• Water heating
• Space heating
Together with the star-rating you receive practical advice on cost-effective ways to improve the energy efficiency of the building and heating systems and create a home that's warmer, healthier, saves you money and is better for the environment.

The best time to get a Home Energy Rating is in the design stage, before the building plans are finalized, so there is the opportunity to implement the advised measures at minimal cost.
