Honda Marine

Since the company was founded in 1948, Honda has been at the forefront of engine technology. In the early 1960s Honda came to the conclusion that the high fuel consumption and exhaust emissions that characterised two stroke outboard motors would prove a limiting factor in the future. In 1964 Honda released the world's first four stroke outboard motor. Company founder Soichiro Honda said at the time " What will happen to our oceans lakes and rivers if all that exhaust gas mixed with oil gets pumped into the water? I don't care if everyone else is making two strokes, Honda must make four strokes."

Honda has been actively working towards helping solve environmental problems since the early 1960s when the "Blue Sky for Children" program was first launched. A key part of this initiative was the revolutionary CVCC engine technology. Developed in both Japan and the USA CVCC was rolled out across the Honda automotive model range. Since then, Honda has strived to create new technologies that have contributed to lowering exhaust gas emissions and fuel consumption world wide. Honda has been committed to producing environmentally responsible outboard motors for more than 40 years and is the only outboard manufacturer with every model in it's range meeting the world's toughest emissions regulations - EPA 2006 and CARB 2008.

Honda outboard motors are up to 90% cleaner, 50% more fuel efficient and 50% quieter than typical two stroke outboards.

The Honda environmental commitment also incorporates appropriate management systems, in particular Life Cycle Assesment. Honda originally developed Life Cycle Assessment as a tool for quantative assessment of environmental loads in all the sectors in which the company operates, enabling the development and implementation of effective environmental measures. In 1998 Honda launched the Green factory planning program which is the foundation of the company's eco friendly manufacturing practices and seeks to minimise factory emissions and waste throughout the entire manufacturing process. All Honda outboard motors are manufactured in ISO14001 environmentally certified and audited factories.
