The sun’s solar thermal energy is the cleanest and most inexhaustible of all known energy sources. This energy, although plentiful, has been hard to directly harness until recently. Now in many regions, solar hot water heaters have become a very practical supplement or alternative to electric or gas hot water production.

Flat plate thermal solar hot water collectors have been in use for several decades, but only in relatively small numbers. Evacuated solar hot water tubes have also been in use for more than 20 years, but have been much more expensive and often only chosen for high temperature applications or by those with money.

In recent years advances in solar hot water evacuated tube technology have lead to an explosion in production volumes, resulting in greatly reduced manufacturing and material costs, so that now solar hot water evacuated tube systems are similar in price to flat plate systems. But, with their superior insulation performance, solar hot water evacuated tubes have become the new worldwide default choice for thermal solar applications.
