Kingswood Skis is boutique, hand made ski company based in Lyttelton, outside Christchurch. Kingswood Skis are made to order using the best materials money can buy. The company was started by ski-bum turned pro-skier Alex Herbert, who did 14 winters behind a tuning bench before deciding to teach himself ski construction. Alex developed all the processes himself over three years and the company was launched in 2005, with a range of five skis. Today there are nine skis in the range and a kids range on the way. Kingswood Skis has been a member of the Sustainable Business Network since 2007. That year, the company won the Southern Sustainable Business Awards for both its product and its processes. Kingswood has taken a number of sustainability initiatives, including using recycled packaging and renewable bamboo cores. Kingswood Skis also sponsors the ride-sharing website, Snowpool.org.nz.
